Ridulfo News & Photo of the Month...

For most of us in the world of genealogy, ever so infrequently do you find something in your family tree that is so interesting, even mind blowing. Well, I found that something in my tree this month. While investigating a DNA match to my mother’s paternal grandmother’s Rubin line, I reached out and made contact with a cousin on that side, who was able to fill in a few missing holes in my Rubin family tree. One of these holes, to say the least, was quite remarkable. Are you ready? Believe it or not, my second cousin, once removed is Ellen Gordon, the President and CEO of Tootsie Roll Industries. The Tootsie Roll company has been in her family going back to the early 1930’s, when her mother Cele initially bought some stock, and her father William (whose paper box business had them as a customer) who later bought the company. Ellen married Melvin in 1950, who joined the company and ran it for the past 65 years, until his death in 2015, when Ellen then took over. So how ‘bout that, I’m related to the queen of the Tootsie Roll empire!

“The” Ridulfo Family Tree...

The tree of 1800+ Ridulfo’s I’ve documented so far is finally posted - .pdf file here (login required). What is nice is that you can search for people using the standard Adobe .pdf reader tools (Ctrl-F). Just bear in mind two things when you search: 1) people’s names are entered with their middle names and/or Italian birth names, for example my grandfather is under “Jack (Giacomo Ridulfo) Ridolph” so searching just for “Jack Ridolph” will return no results. And 2) there are dozens of Leoluca and Giuseppe Ridulfo’s - if you want to find your specific one, try searching using his wife’s full name. Happy hunting, and if you find anything wrong or missing, PLEASE let me know!
